A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is an identifying number used for tax purposes. A TIN is issued by the tax authorities of the country where you are considered a resident for tax purposes. It is a unique combination of letters and/or numbers assigned to you/your entity. Some countries do not issue a TIN, but rely on another issued number such as social security/insurance numbers, personal identification number or resident registration number. You can find out more about TINs on the OECD website

Step 2 - Complete your application form

Tax Reporting

We are required to record where you are 'tax resident' (this will usually be where you are liable to pay income taxes). Depending upon your tax residency we may need to provide the Jersey tax authority with this information, along with information relating to your accounts, which may then be shared between the relevant countries' tax authorities.

You are responsible for understanding and complying with your tax obligations in all countries in which those obligations arise. If you have any questions on how to define your tax residency status, please visit the OECD website or speak to a professional tax adviser, as HSBC Group does not provide tax advice.

If you are a US national, have US contact details or other US connections, we may require additional FATCA documentation before we can complete your application.

Your account(s) will be held by HSBC Expat, a division of HSBC Bank plc, Jersey Branch, HSBC House, Esplanade, St Helier, Jersey JE1 1HS. HSBC Bank plc, Jersey Branch, is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
